As I Sit, Eating my Lunch... Sushi Rice Balls (worth the name)

There's always a part of my day when I'm thinking about food. Well, actually, there's a few parts of my day.  I'm just going to say that I'm a "foodie". I love food. I love food of all cultures and flavors.  As you can probably can tell, this post is going to be about food. One kind of food more specifically, Asian food.  A few days ago, I kept torturing myself while looking at some Japanese food recipes on Pinterest.  I finally grew the balls (hah) to try something.  Most of the ingredients included were already in my pantry, but they are uncommon in homes that don't typically eat traditional Asian cuisine.  What I'm showing today is a blend of a traditional japanese lunch called Onigiri, which looks like the picture above, and sushi.   Basically, my recipe is Onigiri stuffed with a basic sushi filling (more american and generic than actual sushi)

Ingredients for Sushi Rice Balls(for 1 person/2 balls):

    Image result for dashi powder
  • 1 cup of short grain rice
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 can of tuna
  • 2 tbs mayo
  • 1 tbs of rice vinegar
  • 1 tbs dashi powder

Preparation

  1. first you cook the rice like a normal person would ( if you aren't sure please go ask your mom)
  2. after it's done cooking, mix the rice with the rice vinegar in a non metallic bowl
  3. while the rice is cooling down a bit, mix the mayo, dashi powder, and tuna together in another bowl
  4. once the rice is cool enough to handle (but still a bit warm), grab a regular cereal bowl, line it with seran wrap, form a layer of rice to the shape of the bowl like a cup.
  5. once you have done that, fill it with some a good scoop of tuna
  6. place a small layer of rice on top of the tuna
  7. pick up the rice in the seran wrap and cup it in your hands to form a ball.
  8. make sure none of the tuna is exposed
When you are done, please comment any variances you included to your own rice balls!
the finished product should look a bit like this

FAVORITE BREAKFAST

My favorite (healthy) breakfast (aka not my favorite chilaquiles with chipotle sauce from achiote). It’s something easy, tasty and very To-Go!
OATMEAL
There’s a special way to prepare it though!

Recipe-
  • 1/3 cup of oats (I prefer coach’s oats)
  • 1 tbs of powdered peanut butter
  • 1 (and a half if you desire) tbs of honey
  • 1/2 cup of water
DIRECTIONS
  1. Mix the powdered peanut butter and oats together
  2. Add water and cook until nice and mushy
  3. Add honey and mix well
  4. Enjoy like there’s no tomorrow!
PRETTY EASY RIGHT?!?
I hope you will enjoy it before school like I do!
LIFE HACK
Instead of prepping all of that in the mornings, put together a few baggies for the week as a grab-n-go meal to prepare at school or work

HELLO WORLD!
I’m still not sure what is going to follow with my blog.  I’m considering a photo blog with a few little quirks in it.  Should I start with a summary of my day? I’ll do that.
  1. woke up to a darling little rat dog of mine barking at nothing
  2. enjoyed a very lovely mother’s day breakfast
  3. rest of  the day was a blur
now I’m here.
I know I should be getting ready for my morning classes but I can’t help but enjoy talking about myself on this thing. anyways, down to what I was really going to show you guys…

Hello Reader!

As an introduction...

My name is Tabi and I am a cosmetology student who loves to DIY and is an active Pinterest user (that is a link to my boards).  I had originally created a blog on WordPress(that's my blog) which I might still update weekly, but I thought it might be easier to try this site too! I love having choices so I'll see which I like better.  As my first post and an introduction to my new blog, I would like to make a post about my favorite colors, their hex codes, and what they are called if they have a name!
